1. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials (via Firebase Authentication). If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google profile name and email.
Usage Data: We collect information about how you use CitizenApp, including questions answered, mock test scores, study streaks, topics studied, and time spent in the app. This data is used to personalize your learning experience.
Device Information: We automatically collect basic device information such as browser type, operating system, and screen size to optimize the app experience.
AI Tutor Conversations: Messages you send to the AI Tutor are processed to generate responses. We do not store conversation history beyond your current session.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the CitizenApp learning experience
- To personalize your study plan, track progress, and calculate pass probability
- To send account-related communications (password resets, updates)
- To process payments if you purchase a Pro plan or Pass Guarantee
- To analyze usage patterns and improve our question bank and features
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication and analytics
- Stripe: Payment processing (if you purchase a plan)
- Vercel: Hosting and deployment
- AI providers: Your AI Tutor messages are sent to our AI provider to generate responses. No personal information beyond the conversation content is shared.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data and study progress for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at privacy@citizenapp.ca.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication via Firebase, and access controls to protect your data. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions.
6. Your Rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial legislation, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Withdraw consent for data processing

7. Cookies
CitizenApp uses essential cookies for authentication and session management. We use Firebase Analytics to understand usage patterns. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work correctly.
8. Children's Privacy
CitizenApp is intended for users aged 18 and older (the minimum age to apply for Canadian citizenship). We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or in-app notification. Continued use of CitizenApp after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
